  • If you have a concern about your child’s substance use or have been ordered to undergo an AODA assessment, you should begin by contacting your primary care provider. Ask for a referral for substance use or mental health counseling in your network.

  • If you or your child already have a mental health counselor, they may also be able to complete an AODA assessment.
 
 

Substance Use Disorder (AODA) Assessment

Anesis Therapy Center now provides some of the services that were offered through UW AADAIP. There are two drop-in clinics in Madison at Mt Zion Baptist and LightHouse School. For more information call 608-268-6530 or go to anesistherapycenter.com

Dane County Behavioral Health Center provides help to adults and/or children seeking help with mental health or substance use disorders. Call 608-267-2244 or email BHRC@countyofdane.com for help. Learn more about other resources and supports on their web site: danebhrc.org

Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin can provide substance use assessments including court-ordered assessments. There is a fee for the assessment. Therapy fees are on a sliding scale. More information at www.lsswis.org

Connections Counseling (a division of Rosecrance): Outpatient substance abuse and mental health treatment for adults and teens. Accepts most medical insurance and will help verify insurance coverage and co-pay amounts. Learn more at rosecrance.org
 

Tobacco (Nicotine) Cessation Supports

Tobacco Quit Line: Call 1-800- QUITNOW (784 8669) or text “READY” to 200-400 to get free assistance and a customized quit plan. Plan includes one-on-one phone counseling, referral to local cessation programs and starter packs of quite smoking medications (nicotine gum, patches or lozenges). Offered by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

Smokefree Text Program: Text “QUIT” to 47848 to get daily text messages to support you in quitting smoking for 6-8 weeks. Offered by the National Cancer Institute at Smokefree.gov.

Vape Free program: Text VAPEFREE to 873373 for free help to quit vaping. You’ll receive tools to help you through your quit journey.

NOT for Me: a free, web-based program with 8 self-paced sessions (mobile friendly) based on the N-O-T (Not On Tobacco) program. Visit NOTforMe.org. Not On Tobacco is a program from the American Lung Association.

BecomeAnEX: Free digital quit-smoking plan developed by Truth Initiative and the Mayo Clinic. Learn more and sign up at https://truthinitiative.org

This Is Quitting: Free quit-vaping text messaging program designed for teens and young adults. Teens and young adults can join for free by texting DITCHVAPE to 88709. Developed by Truth Initiative.

Briarpatch Parent Support Program provides help to parents and caregivers of youth who are experiencing a variety of challenges including drug or alcohol abuse, mental health challenges and truancy. The group meets virtually twice a month. To join, email the program coordinator for information and a link.
 

Inpatient Programs for Youth

Meriter Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is an impatient treatment program for young people ages 6-18 with severe behavioral health challenges. For more information call 608-417-8777

Rosecrance has a residential program in Rockford, IL that offers treatment for teens. More information at rosecrance.org or call 866-330-8729

Rogers Behavioral Health has Addiction Recovery residential and outpatient care options. Request a free screening at 800-767-4411. Program details are available on their website: rogersbh.org

Tellurian Behavioral Health Center provides mental health and/or substance use disorder care. Inpatient care includes a 29 bed Detoxification Center that helps with alcohol and opiate withdrawal. Programs include residential, day and outpatient options. Call 608-222-7311 or visit tellurian.org
 

Hotlines

SAMHSA’s National Helpline, 1-800-662-HELP (4357) (also known as the Treatment Referral Routing Service), or TTY: 1-800-487-4889 is a confidential, free, 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-a-year, information service, in English and Spanish, for individuals and family members facing mental and/or substance use disorders. This service provides referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups, and community-based organizations.

Partnership to End Addiction offers one-on-one help via text, email, and phone consultations (by appointment). Text 55753 or complete the form at drugfree.org. Visit drugfree.org for more information.

United Way of Dane County has an information and referral service to help with access to a wide range of situations. Call 211 from any phone. Available 24/7 and in almost any language.

Parent Stressline of Dane County offers parents a place to talk, process stress and connect with a compassionate advocate. A program of The Canopy Center, Madison. Open 8 am to 10 pm every day at 608-241-2221

New York State Kinship Care Toolkit provides support to individuals caring for children impacted by parental addiction and/or overdose. Some or the resources are state specific, but many are universal. Website

Generations United works to improve the lives of children, youth and older people through intergenerational collaboration, public policies and programs for the enduring benefit of all. Website

Grandfamilies.org is a national legal resource in support of Grandfamilies within and outside the child welfare system. Website

Wisconsin Grandfacts has state and county specific data and information on public benefits, legal relationship options and state laws as well as links to county agencies that support Grandfamilies in Wisconsin. Available in English and Spanish. Download
